Microsoft Sells MSNBC.com Stake for $300 million to Comcast

A 16 year-long partnership ended yesterday when Microsoft sold their portion of MSNBC.com back to NBCUniversal (A Comcast company) for $300 million. The New York Times reported on the news yesterday.

MSNBC.com now redirects to the NBC News website. It is expected that MSNBC.com will return in 2013 as the news site for the TV network.

The exit from MSNBC does not mean that the software giant is out of reporting altogether though. Microsoft will still push forward on journalism through MSN.com by hiring a team of about 100 journalists according to a report from AP.
