Marissa Mayer to Take Lead at Yahoo, Starts as CEO Tomorrow

The New York Times is getting their fair share of breaks over the past few days and today is no different. The news publication broke word earlier of former Google executive Marissa Mayer being named the new President and CEO of struggling Yahoo. Mayer will assume the role tomorrow.

Mayer resigned from her position at Google today after accepting the lead role at Yahoo. Mayer did make a statement on her new position:

I am honored and delighted to lead Yahoo, one of the internet’s premier destinations for more than 700 million users. I look forward to working with the Company’s dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world.

Yahoo has been without a permanent CEO since May when Scott Thompson left the company.

The Yahoo board said the decision was unanimous to appoint the Stanford University graduate who is also on the boards of Wal-Mart and a selection of ballets across the country.

Yahoo is currently trading up 2.46% in the after markets indicating that investors are pleased with the decision that the board made.
