Rumor: Microsoft Looking to Buy Vivendi’s 60% Activision Stake
Vivendi may be looking to sell their majority stake in game publisher Activision and Microsoft may be one to make a bid for the company according to Reuters. Other potential bid makers for the company behind Call of Duty and World of Warcraft include Time Warner and Chinese media company Tencent.
The process to sell Activision hasn’t officially begun yet as Vivendi are simply testing the waters to figure out a strategy going forward.
“It’s nothing official yet, but they’ve asked a bank to go and talk to possible buyers for Activision,” said a source close to the Vivendi board.
Vivendi will be looking for all cash offers for the business and a price close to $10 billion wouldn’t be too far off what we would see if a sale were to go through.
I feel that Activision could be a reasonable and effective buy for Microsoft. As they try to push further into the forefront of gaming a major publisher would no doubt benefit the Redmond firm.
