Is the Death of Blu-Ray Near? Only Four Years Away According to Roku CEO

Better start selling those Blu-ray disks on eBay while they’re still hot as  Roku CEO Anthony Wood claims they’ll be outdated in only four years.

The statement came from Wood at an event in San Francisco, the “TV of Tomorrow” show. As I think about it, I don’t really see a need for Blu-ray either. I typically go to the movies to catch the latest release and any movies I happen to watch at home are downloaded through iTunes and the Apple TV (sorry Roku).

Yesterday I watched the movie Indie Game in great quality, albeit 720P. The movie cost I believe $12 in HD and I have it forever with no disk to take up space around the house. I definitely see not having to make space for disks a big benefit of digital distribution and I definitely agree with the Roku boss that Blu-ray will be gone within the next few years.
